Singapore Young Photographer Award 2018 Rules & Regulations

  1. ELIGIBILITY
    1. The Youth Category of the CDL Singapore Young Photographer Award is open to Singapore Citizensand Permanent Residents residing in Singapore who are between 19 and 25 years old (as at 31st March 2018).
    2. The Junior Category of the CDL Singapore Young Photographer Award is open to Singapore Citizensand Permanent Residents residing in Singapore who are born between 13 and 18 years old (as at 31st March 2018).
  2. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    1. Participants may participate in more than one of the four Awards but each participant is allowed to submit at least five (5) entries, not more than twenty (20) entries for each award category.
      1. Sustainable Cities Award
        Participants are required to submit minimum 5 images created based on a theme:

        1. “Sustainable Cities”
        The set of 5 images (max 20 images) can be in colour or monochrome. They can be shot in or outside Singapore.
      2. Sustainable Communities Award
        Participants are required to submit minimum 5 images created based on a theme:

        1. “Sustainable Communities”
        The set of 5 images (max 20 images) can be in colour or monochrome. They can be shot in or outside Singapore.
    2. Digital enhancements such as sharpening, contrast adjustment, conversion of colour images to black-and-white are allowed as long as the reality of the image is not distorted.
    3. The original file, negative or slide of prize winning entries must be submitted for verification upon notification, failing which, the entries will be disqualified. The original image must have a minimum of 3,800 pixels on the longest side.
    4. Submission that does not adhere the dimension requirement may/may not be disqualified.
    5. Images must not have been used for commercial purposes, published previously or won prizes in other competitions, locally or abroad.
  3. SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES
    1. Entry to all the awards’ competitions is free.
    2. Each set of photos must be submitted via www.SYPA.sg
    3. Entries may be shot either on film or digital cameras, and must be submitted as separate image files in jpeg format with minimum 1,600 pixels on the longest side of each image. Each file should not exceed 2MB in size.
    4. No watermarks, identifying marks or signatures will be allowed for images entered into the competition.
    5. The submission deadline is Thursday, 31 May 2018, 23:59 (Singapore Time)
    6. The Organiser will not be liable for technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind or lost or unavailable network connections which may limit or prohibit an eligible entrant’s ability to participate in the competition.
  4. PRIZES
      1. Prizes are non-transferable and non-exchangeable for cash.

  5. COPYRIGHT/INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
    1. Images submitted for this competition must be the ORIGINAL WORK of the participants who must alsoown the sole copyrights to the pictures.
    2. Participants would have to submit the entry RAW FILES upon request for the purpose of credibility.
    3. The Organiser reserves the non-exclusive right to reproduce, display and use any entries for the following purposes without obtaining further prior permission and payment of any fees to the photographer. However, relevant credit will be given to the photographer.
      1. Operating, administering and promoting the competition;
      2. Displaying the entrant’s submission on this competition website and/or Partners’ website;
      3. Issuing a media release or making media pitches;
      4. Fringe activities, roadshows, exhibitions and in publications both printed and online.

      It is the legal responsibility of the participant, not the Organiser or its partners, to ensure compliance with all ownership and copyright requirements, and own the rights to reproduce the photograph(s).

    4. The participant (including his or her heirs, parents, legal guardians, executor and/or administrators) hereby agrees to be fully liable to the Organiser and their officers, employees and agents for any violation of confidentiality, patent, copyright or any other intellectual property rights in the photographand materials submitted and shall defend, indemnify and hold the Organiser and each of their officers, employees and agents thereof harmless from and against any actions, claims, loss or damages for infringement or alleged infringement of such confidentiality, patent, copyright or any other intellectual property rights.
  6. JUDGING & RESULTS
    1. Entries shall be evaluated by a panel of judges and their decision is final. No correspondence pertainingto the judging process will be entertained.
    2. Entries will be judged based on originality, creativity, relevance to the subject matters and photographic techniques. Shortlisted participants will be required to attend an interview and/or submit original files forfinal evaluation.
    3. The judging panel reserves the right not to award the prizes if the portfolios submitted do not meet the requirements stated herein.
    4. Results of the competition will be announced at the Prize Presentation scheduled in June 2018. Winners will be notified via phone and/or email and be asked to submit the original photograph, or thehighest image quality of the photograph with minimum 3,800 pixels on its longest side. Winners whofail to submit the photograph as required will be ineligible to win any prize.
  7. ACCEPTANCE OF RULES & REGULATIONS
    1. Submission of entries signifies acceptance of the rules and regulations of the Award. Any breach of the rules and regulations by a participant will void his/her submission.
    2. The Organiser reserves the right to amend any of the rules and regulations without prior notice. Any amendments will be published on www.SYPA.sg and it is the participants’ responsibility to check the website for any updates.
